In Spain, in 2021, buildings are responsible for 9.54% of total greenhouse gas emissions and 31.9% total final energy consumption.

In 2023, 9.95 million people, or 20.7 percent of the population, were unable to maintain an adequate temperature in their homes. This represents an increase of 4.8 million people compared to 2020.

In 2022, almost nine out of ten homes (85%) have an energy rating of E, F or G, the worst in terms of consumption and emissions, and the most common rating in Spanish households is E (52%).

In 2021, households consumed 39.5% for space heating, 19.5 % for domestic hot water, 1.0% for space cooling, 31.4 % for lighting and electric appliances and 7.8% for cooking.

In 2020, 23% of residential heating’s energy consumption in Spain came from Gas, 28 % from oil, 41% from Biofuels and waste, 8% from electricity and 1% came from coal.
