CLER coordinates in France the initiative Rénovons.

In France, in 2022, buildings are responsible for 16% of total greenhouse gas emissions and 45 % total final energy consumption.

Energy poverty affects around 10.8% of households in France, meaning approximately more than 7.3 million people, according to 2022 figures.

By January 1st 2022, around 5.2 million homes (or 17% of the total number of primary residences) would be "leaky homes" (labels F and G of the EPC), and around 0.5 million homes would be very energy-intensive, with annual final energy consumption levels above 450 kWh/m²/year.

In 2021, households consumed 68.7% for space heating, 10.2 % for domestic hot water, 0.6% for space cooling, 15.6 % for lighting and electric appliances and 4.8% for cooking.

By January 1st 2022, about 41% of primary residences were heated with gas, 37% with electricity, 12% with oil and 10% with wood and heat network.
