ITALY'S INITIATIVE
In Italy, the building sector, comprising residential and services sectors, represents 43.5% of total final energy consumption in 2021 and is responsible for 19.9 % of of total greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2022, there were more than 2 million households in energy poverty, or 7.7 per cent of total households.
In 2022, 55% of buildings are still in the lower energy performance classes, meaning class F or G.
In 2021, households consumed 68.2% for space heating, 11.6 % for domestic hot water, 0.8% for space cooling, 13.4 % for lighting and electric appliances and 6.4% for cooking.
In 2020, 60% of residential heating’s energy consumption in Italy came from Gas, 28% from Biofuels and waste, 7% from oil and 4% came from heat.
