GERMANY'S INITIATIVE
In Germany, in 2022, the residential sector is responsible for 13.5% of of total greenhouse gas emissions and 29.3% total final energy consumption.
In 2022, 5.5 million people in Germany felt they were financially unable to keep their home adequately warm, according to figures by statistical office Destatis. Thus, the share of affected people doubled within a year to 6.6 percent of the population.
In 2021, households consumed 67.1% for space heating, 17.0 % for domestic hot water, 0.2% for space cooling, 9.8 % for lighting and electric appliances and 6.5% for cooking.
In 2020, 46% of residential heating’s energy consumption in Germany came from Gas, 25 % from oil, 14% from Biofuels and waste, 2% from electricity, 1% came from coal and 11% came from heat.
